I saw an great card done with the Herringbone technique and wanted to give it a try for myself. You can see Dawn's card that I basically re-created with similar colors (I'm referring to the second card in brown/salmon/blue above), along with Dawn's herringbone tutorial HERE.
I then made a second card in a Christmas theme using CTMH Jingle B&Ts, which is actually shown at the top of my post. I love how my Christmas one turned out!
I omitted the carpet tape from Dawn's instructions only because I didn't have any on hand. I simply glued strips down onto a piece of CS. My herringbone piece (on each card) is 2 1/2" x 4 1/4".
Supplies used on top card (all CTMH unless otherwise noted): Just for the Holidays stamp set; Jingle, and Creative Basics Jingle B&Ts; Black and White Daisy CS; Black, Juniper, and Tulip inks; Black polka dot grosgrain; Cranberry button; Juniper waxy flax; Punches: 1", 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" circle (EK Success), and Mega Snowflake (Marvy Uchida); pop dots (other).
Supplies used on bottom card (all CTMH unless otherwise noted): Many Thanks stamp set; Twitterpated B&Ts; Chocolate, Heavenly Blue, Sorbet, and Colonial White CS; Chocolate, Sweet Leaf, and Sorbet inks; Chocolate stitched grosgrain; Antique copper mini brads; Ticket Corner punch (SU).

Gorgeous! Love the look! I'd love to try, but everytime I try weaving paper it comes out all wonky!

I love all of these cards - they are amazing! I know what you mean about thinking up your own card . . . but I so seldom do that - mostly I'm trying to copy someone else's work and just don't get it quite right!
The herringbone technique is amazing - thanks for the link to Dawn's video. I think I might try it with a piece of cardstock run through my xyron machine to make the entire surface sticky. That should work . . .
