Okay, so this is a little late for Halloween, but I want to show you a sign I made using a left over plank from our unfinished maple hardwood flooring we bought for our home.
For my project, I was completely inspired by Lisa Johnson's fabulous Halloween card
that you can see in this post.
Backside of sign/floor board.
It is currently sitting in my kitchen window facing towards the outside, but I do plan to add some picture hanging hardware to the back of it.
I first made the Halloween sign on Colonial White cardstock by cutting out the alphas from Moonlight B&T on my Cricut, and using a pumpkin stamp for the 'O'.
I stamped the spider web and the spiders with Black pigment ink, and used Clear Detail embossing powder to set the ink. I did the same to the word 'Happy'.
I had my hubby cut the board down to 7" x 14", then I lightly sanded it, and then sponged Black acrylic paint around the 4 sides and on the outer edges of the front side.
I used to tole paint years ago, so I have tons of colours of acrylic paint left over from those days.
After the paint dried, I painted a thin layer of Mod Podge over the back of my cardstock piece and carefully centered it to the front of the board, trying to get it to lay as flat as possible, and let it dry before applying two more coats of Mod Podge over top of it all.
It did buckle a little here and there, but not too badly. ;)

Oh, and speaking of making signs out of floor boards/planks...
here's one I made back in August.
This one is hanging above my kitchen window and sink.
The brown vinyl letters are from a SU freebie earlier this year.
I simply painted a couple of coats of creamy white paint over the board, let it dry and gave it a good sanding, taking it down to the bare wood on the outer edges.
Then I simply applied the vinyl letters.
Easy, peasy.
I love how it turned out.
Happy creating! :)
Supplies used for the cardstock portion of the Halloween sign (all CTMH unless otherwise noted):
Paper: Moonlight B&T; Colonial White CS
Stamps: Spooky Smiles - retired, Happy Everything (SU)
Inks: Black pigment, Black, Sunset, Sweet Leaf; Black journal pen
Other: Cricut Artiste cartridge, Clear Detail embossing powder, Micro-tip scissors

These are SOOOO cute!!!!! While I wish I had leftover maple planks laying around (yea, I'm a little jealous of your GORGEOUS new house, LOL), you've inspired me to find some wood and make some signs! :o)
