The Local Wildlife

Look at what hit my front window yesterday...
it scared the bajeebers outta me for a moment.  lol

There was a large bang, and it totally flexed the large window.

It was fine, and was just stunned for a few minutes.

Long enough for me to take some photos and then run off.

It is a grouse, in case you were wondering.

They are fairly big, like a smallish chicken.

This past week I had another surpise visit from...

some sort of horses.

I was trying to figure out where in the world they came from.

I don't know much about horses, but they look like some sort of ponies to me.

There were 3 adults and 2 babies.

This little guy walked right up to me while I was standing on the deck, taking their photos.

I believe they belong to a neighbor a little ways away, and they headed towards home shortly after I got some fun pictures of them.

And not until after they proceeded to "snot" up each of my front windows of the house.  lol

It has been pretty cold, so I finally was able to clean the windows now that it has warmed up a little.  Although it is only around zero degrees and soooo windy.

The above pictures reminded me of the moose we have had hanging around our property and area lately.

This is of a momma and her 2 babies.

We've seen lots different "groups" of moose hanging around since before Christmas.

The down side to the moose is that I have to drive my son to the school bus every day.

It is still dark in the mornings, so you can't see them in the bush.

A momma moose is very unpredictable and will not hesitate to trample you.

They make me nervous.

When they are in the yard, those days are inside days.

And lastly, the lovely deer.

We always have deer traipsing through our yard, too.

I love the deer, they are so pretty.

Sadly, one died on our property sometime this winter.

It's been a tough winter with so much snow early in the season.

Anyways, living out at the lake, there's always something going on with the wildlife.

:)

Your house is so pretty and then to see all of this is delightful. But you can keep the the snow!!! Don't like the cold white stuff at all.

As an avid reader of your emails and lover of your artwork, thank you for always sending your work. I've just had a very stressful night and when I turned on my computer in the wee hours, this morning, your email of all the wildlife have put a smile on my face. This is what life is all about. Not the other garbage we live through on a daily basis. Thank you so much for sharing ! I really needed this.

Vicki, thanks for sharing these beautiful photos. I can't imagine looking out my window and seeing such beautiful creatures. I live in New Jersey and a deer sighting is about as exciting as it gets.

Yep they sure are Fjord's we own one a long time ago, they are not native and actually come from UK so these are somebody's horses. i hope they went home or some one found them. :-)

You've captured some amazing pictures! It must be wonderful to view these beautiful creatures, from a safe distance! I have been watching a small pack of coyotes pass by our property and can hear their cries in the night. I prefer to keep my distance though!
